Etna Volcanic Adventure

Your long weekend trek begins in Sicily's famed ancient town of Taormina. From here you will head to Mt. Etna, the largest volcano in Europe, standing at about 3,350m. You will spend two days trekking over 35kms and discovering the Pista Altomontana, the circular path around Mt. Etna.

This will have only been the warm up for your main challenge as after the Pista Altomontana you will take a cable link from 1,800m to 2,500m and continue to trek to the top of Mt. Etna. Your 8 hour trek will be accompanied by a specialist volcano guide to inform you about Etna's historic activity.

On summiting you receive your reward; a complete view of Mt. Etna with an amazing panorama of the four craters at the top and the east coast of Sicily. You will descend on foot to Piano Provenzana (1,800m) in the north, where you will be welcomed at a mountain hut for an evening's celebrations.

Icelandic Lava Trek

Iceland hosts some of Europe's greatest wilderness areas, which are home to active volcanoes, sheer cliffs, glaciers, thundering waterfalls, steaming lava fields, plunging fjords, boiling mud pools and spouting geysers!

The challenge is to walk the Landmannalaugar route across the Southern Highlands through one of the most actively volcanic areas in Iceland. Although this is a short European trek, don't be fooled into thinking it is not challenging! The days are long, the terrain is difficult, and you will be expected to get involved in helping to set up camp in the evenings.

Whilst the trek is not technically difficult, you will have to be prepared for some steep climbs and descents on rough ground, as well as walking across snowfields. Such aweinspiring terrain is rarely crossed by adventurers. Before returning home, you will have the chance to visit the Blue Lagoon and take a dip.

Trek to Macha Picchu

Your first taste of the Inca world will be in and around the city of Cusco, the ancient Inca capital. After acclimatising to the high altitude by visiting local Inca ruins and Spanish Colonial churches, you will head towards the remote and rarely visited Lares Valley.

This unique alternative to the extremely busy Inca Trail is far off the beaten track and you will see diverse and spectacular scenery as you glimpse a way of Peruvian life that has remained untouched for centuries. As you walk through these endless stunning valleys you will meet Andean farmers dressed in their traditional brightly coloured ponchos tending herds of Llamas and Alpacas. You will get to meet the local communities and visit a local school supported by Charity Challenge.

The region is also home to the Baños Del Inca, probably the best hot springs in southern Peru. Situated at an altitude of 2,667m, the springs offer spectacular views of snowy peaks and glaciers such as Mounts Veronica, Chicon and Pumahaunca. As you continue along your route, you will also take in the dazzling sight of glacial blue lakes.

You will eventually have some time to explore the ruins at Machu Picchu, the ‘lost City of the Incas’. These breathtaking pre Columbian ruins are nestled high in the Andes between two peaks. The ruins were rediscovered in 1911 by Yale archaeologist Hiram Bingham and are one of the most beautiful and enigmatic ancient sites in the world.

Kilimanjaro Summit Climb

At 5,895m, Mt. Kilimanjaro is one of the largest volcanoes ever to break through the Earth's crust. Your challenge is to reach its summit.

Your trek starts in the rainforests of Lemosho Glades and heads upwards as you acclimatise on Shira Plateau. From here you will catch a glimpse of your goal Kibo, Kilimanjaro's main ice-capped peak. You continue via the beautiful Southern Flank, Barranco Wall and Barafu Route.

Temperatures drop at night, allowing you to enjoy the crisp cool air under the star-studded African skies. During the days you'll rise higher; often looking down on a sea of clouds.

Our groups have excellent success rates (96%) for trekkers reaching the summit, but don't underestimate the challenge ahead. Most trekkers will never have experienced a day as tough as this, with 1,000m of ascent and over 2,000m of descent. It is however victory day!

Great Wall Discovery

The Great Wall of China was originally constructed to keep out nomadic tribes who raided China's northern frontier.

Your trekking challenge starts in Jinshanling with a vigorous trek that loops along the mountains either side of the Gubeikou Gateway.

Each day you will trek approximately 12kms along the stony path, twisting and winding its way along the mountains, interspersed with crumbling watchtowers.

It is demanding but also very rewarding, particularly on a clear day when you can look at the vast and beautiful mountain ranges. Your imagination will take you back several centuries to when the wall was the frontline defence of Imperial China.

On completion of your challenge you will return to Beijing to explore some of the many attractions of China's capital city: the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven and the Lama Temple.
