Latest News: Bradford Bulls have a Change of Heart
This year, players from The Bradford Bulls will be taking a break from the pitch to visit Primary Schools in Bradford, as part of a new healthy heart project aimed at local children. The programme is being run by The Bradford Bulls Foundation and funded by a £10,000 Healthy Heart Grant from Yorkshire’s own heart charity, Heart Research UK.
‘A Change of Heart’ programme will aim to improve the heart health of children aged 8-11 who live in the inner-city wards of Bradford, where approximately 30% of people living in these areas suffer from chronic conditions such as heart disease and whose general health is considered ‘very poor’.
This interactive project will get pupils from 18 primary schools learning about their heart health and how to take care of their hearts through fun activities and games. Over 2,000 children will take part and at the end of each four week programme the children’s families will be invited to a special school assembly, with a Bradford Bull Player, to celebrate the success of the project and spread the Healthy Heart message even further.
Gareth Cook, General Manager, Bradford Bulls Foundation, says: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Heart Research UK, by delivering a practical and creative Healthy Heart project. We aim to engage pupils with lifestyle messages they will never forget and with the help of professional rugby players from the Bradford Bulls I’m sure it will be a great success. We would once again like to thank Heart Research UK for this wonderful opportunity.”
Barbara Harpham, National Director at Heart Research UK, says: “Everyone in Bradford knows The Bradford Bulls and it’s great to see local role models getting involved in helping to spread the Healthy Heart message. Children need to be educated about the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle and projects like this are great way of making it fun and interactive.”
